NaBloPoMo? No. GitRDunMo!
As most of you know, because I’ve tapped you to do some proof reading or emailed asking you to zip over and check the price for poutine at a pataterie with no phone, we’re in the throws of book production on the new edition of CheapEats Ottawa. My hope (cross-your-fingers-the-printers-will-agree) is to have it in bookstores before Xmas. And just to be clear, I will count 1 book in 1 bookstore on December 24th as success if I have to. Though I’m hoping for better.
It’s actually pretty exciting – the book looks great and makes me hungry when I read it; we just got comped some fantastic promo pieces; and the team has come up with some really fun ideas to make the book even more useful and interesting.
Last week’s 28 hours whirlwind tour of 119 restaurants finished off the “site visits”, proving that most of the restaurants were still around… this is actually an issue no matter how recently they were checked.
Now I’m hustling to finishing up the last round of fact checking… you know the part where I phone every single restaurant to make sure they are 1. still serving the dishes we mention and 2. still fit into the CheapEats price range. Also a regular issue since the restaurants seem to change their menus and prices with little-to-no concern with where we are in the fact checking process.
That’s why I haven’t been blogging. It means that I’ve missed out on participating in NaBloPoMo, which I alluded to before, but I have decided to participate in GitRDunMo this November instead.
Hi Lex. I’m so excited for the new cheapeats to come out. I have a couple of family members I want to give this to for xmas. Let us know when it should be in ottawa bookstores.

J,
I will let you know! Trust me, I’ll be letting EVERYONE know as soon as I have a date, an approximate date, a tentative date. We’ll set up advanced purchase once we have a firm delivery date, so we can ship them out as soon as I carry the literal ton of books up to our third floor office. Woo HOO!
