Julie Wilson of Seen Reading is doing a podcast series of readers reading out loud. This is not my best reading ever. In fact, it’s actually a pretty poor reading. But it’s a GREAT project!
That Mini Book Expo is ON? Right now? Over at www.minibookexpo.com. Yes this year it even has a brand new, shiny URL of its own. (Which also means this is all I’m going to say about it here.) This year I’ve invited the publishers to partner with us and the response has been phenomenal! 11 books ready to be claimed, 60+ still to be released as quickly as I can (2-4 per day), and more coming in. There are some amazing titles on the list which, in previous years, wouldn’t have made the release list because I would have kept…
As I’ve said before, after months and months and months (and months) of working on it, the books are here and we’re having a party! TOMORROW!! The CheapEats Ottawa Book Launch & You’re Invited! CEOT Book Launch Feb 13th, 7pm-9pm at East African Restaurant in Ottawa, sponsored by Beau’s All Natural Brewery. RSVP please! I’ve moved almost my entire office into Rocker & Junkii’s guest room and am stickering the hell out of everything that’s going in the swag bags (which are actually boxes). We’re driving all over town delivering restaurant letters (the letters to restaurants saying “congratulations you’re in…
I’m still reeling from the the very rapid transition from being a desk-hermit, office-bound 7 days a week, 10-12 hours a day, for 2 months; to being a social butterfly flitting about town with my new camera to a photoshoot, an afternoon blogger-schmooze with 40 other bloggers, and a national television studio. Freestyle Photoshoot: The Interrogation Room Originally uploaded by ariehsinger Not to mention, reviewing & final sign off on final proofs, trying to nail down the printer on a delivery date so I can start the book launch and PR planning in earnest on CEOTv2. Has it really been…
What a day! Finished & delivered the book. Thanks for all the woo hoos echoed back from around the country. (We sounded off from Cape Breton to Vancouver.) Got me a brand new camera – Canon S5is. It comes with slick new features like: better low-light capabilities (for restaurant and event shots), a larger view screen (for my crappy eyesight) and a black body (which is much more slimming) and a 4-year warrantee (so that frighteningly familiar sound I’m already hearing won’t cost me.) Got to go to my first Freestyle Photoshoot with the aforementioned brand new camera. (did I…
CheapEats Ottawa – now Ancient Forest Friendly Just got the EcoStatement for the new edition of CEOT. Very cool! (tags: ancientforestfriendly cheapeatsottawa ecostatement book publishing ceot)
It’s time for a happy dance and a big whoop of joy! (not to mention the ceremonial opening of the new camera) After working on this book for over 20 months, we have just delivered the book to the printers. Now, I don’t believe this is the end of the work – there will be more proofs to review, corrections, errors we find after we’ve signed everything off…. but The book looks FANTASTIC! I laughed out loud at a profile this morning. That’s a real sign of the quality of the writing! It’s done and now I get to plan…
[Looking for a holiday message? I give you an Xmas story: Is that you Santie Claus? Happy Ho Ho Ho!] Monitoring the posting on the blog, you might think I’ve gone into hiding for the last month or so. When in fact I have been on the phone steadily since the month began. And it has been successful! Only 9 pesky restaurants still elude our crack team of fact checkers. Our elite squad has been dispatched and they have “ways” to get a restaurant to share their secrets. Those final 9 will succumb before Santa recovers from his jet lag.…
As most of you know, because I’ve tapped you to do some proof reading or emailed asking you to zip over and check the price for poutine at a pataterie with no phone, we’re in the throws of book production on the new edition of CheapEats Ottawa. My hope (cross-your-fingers-the-printers-will-agree) is to have it in bookstores before Xmas. And just to be clear, I will count 1 book in 1 bookstore on December 24th as success if I have to. Though I’m hoping for better. It’s actually pretty exciting – the book looks great and makes me hungry when I…

What books did you love as a child? Submitted by hearts. The Oz books were a big favourite – my dad read them to me. All of them. I still have most of the ones he read from. I think my favourite was The Marvelous Land of Oz which introduces Tip/Ozma & Jack Pumpkinhead But the first time I saw the movie I was 31 and I’ve never seen it in entirety. The Chronicles of Narnia – and no, I still don’t see the christian symbolism in them. I did, however, see a celebration of diversity, acceptance and the recognition…
