Lunch Money Day At Camaraderie

Lunch Money Day At Camaraderie

Lunch Money Day At Camaraderie — Originally uploaded by LexnGer One of the great things about working out of Camaraderie is that everyone here is open and willing to get involved in things like Lunch Money Day.   We decided to do a pot luck lunch and it was fantastic feast of  fresh rolls, pasta, samosa, pecan cake, pies. Food left over and money in the Second Harvest can to feed the people who really need it. Thanks guys!

New Office Space, So Exciting!

New Office Space, So Exciting!

I'm very excited to be moving CheapEats HQ into a dedicated office in the Camaraderie coworking space at Adelaide and Jarvis.  (if you came to my photo show last year, it's the same location) As of August 1st this will be the view from my desk. It's a bigger space than our current office, much closer to home and we're very excited to be joining our friends at Camaraderie.  Though we will miss our LaunchPad buddies, we have a whole new group of friends to make, a park across the street and the St. Lawrence Market just 2 blocks away. …

Plethora Press – Island Office

Plethora Press – Island Office

Plethora Press – Island Office — Originally uploaded by LexnGer I have been saying for almost 25 years that technology will evolve to the point where I can easily, and cheaply, work from the island. My years at BNR and Nortel let me get a glimpse at telephony and high speed communications well before it was available to the public and it was obvious that things would be changing dramatically. Well, with the advent of cell phones, the evolution of solar and the availability of things like Novatel’s MiFi 2372 (which we got from Rogers), that time is now. I…

Setting Up The New Office

Setting Up The New Office

Setting Up The New Office — Originally uploaded by LexnGer Finally, yes finally, after being in the space for 2.5 weeks, I am sharing the photos of our initial setup. The bulk of our first day "in" the office was spent at Ikea getting the furniture and then back here setting it up. I hope you enjoy these action shots.

The Month In Review

The Month In Review

Monitoring the posting on the blog, you might think I’ve gone into hiding for the last month or so.  When in fact I have been on the phone steadily since the month began.  And it has been successful!  Only 9 pesky restaurants still elude our crack team of fact checkers.  Our elite squad has been dispatched and they have “ways” to get a restaurant to share their secrets. Those final 9 will succumb before Santa recovers from his jet lag.

NaBloPoMo? No. GitRDunMo!

NaBloPoMo? No. GitRDunMo!

As most of you know, because I’ve tapped you to do some proof reading or emailed asking you to zip over and check the price for poutine at a pataterie with no phone, we’re in the throws of book production on the new edition of CheapEats Ottawa. My hope (cross-your-fingers-the-printers-will-agree) is to have it in bookstores before Xmas.  And just to be clear, I will count 1 book in 1 bookstore on December 24th as success if I have to.  Though I’m hoping for better. It’s actually pretty exciting – the book looks great and makes me hungry when I…

MiniCards Are In!

MiniCards Are In!

Look what I got in the mail today. A couple of weeks ago three people told me about  moo.com's offer of 10 free minicards for flickr Pro users. All in one day.  The promotion is over, but they've given away 10,000 free packs.  And by "free" they actually meant free – no handling fee, no shipping, no credit card required. FREE! When my cards arrived they came in a funky little card holder. They are minier than I thought they'd be, and when I was picking the photos I was locked into some images that didn't crop down well… but…

We’ve Got Buttons!

We’ve Got Buttons!

Woo Hoo, shiny new CheapEats Toronto buttons.  I picked them up yesterday. Most are white on green, but we have one set of green on black and one set of dumpling buttons. Want one?  If you see me tonight at Nuit Blanche just come up and ask.  After that… well, swag is as swag does baby. [no, I didn't understand that either.] Tags: swag, cheapeats toronto, buttons

Exclusive Opportunity

Exclusive Opportunity

Are you adding a little heavy lifting to your Friday work out? Then, as Tom Sawyer once said, have I got a great opportunity for you! This exclusive workout opportunity will combine heavy lifting, aerobic exercise and stairs with plenty of reps. Tomorrow afternoon at 3pm, 28 cases of CheapEats Toronto 2007 will be arriving at my house. Normally I’d keep this great aerobic exercise to myself. However my walking pneumonia still hasn’t transmuted itself into lugging-1/2-a-tonne-of-books-up-2-flights-of-stairs pneumonia, so just this one time I’m willing to share. Let me know if you are interested in this great opportunity. ;->

You’reNotHelping.com

You’reNotHelping.com

Stink Weed & Dad — taken last year on Moose Island aka The Island I phoned my father this evening to get his input on the new blog name options.  My father is a genius when it comes to naming stuff. One of his most famous naming sessions ended up in an episode of The Dead Dog Cafe.  When he named the 6 "friendly bear" pups after food to remind them of their place — Meatloaf, Pork Pie, Salami, Pepperoni, Sausage, and King Miq (which is spelled wrong but means "dog"). So I was very excited when he answered…

TheApprenticeBlog.com for Sale

Yup, it’s true.  I’m selling out and you can buy my work — Buy TheApprenticeBlog.com on eBay. Okay, it’s not high art. Not really something to hang on the walls, but it’s been a great tool for learning how to market blogs, build a readership, build a community, and keep myself completely out of the public’s eye while doing it. In fact, I’m got so good at keeping myself out of the public eye that most of the readers assumed I was American, male, and white.  Okay, so I’m white… well, red after sailing yesterday. So, I guess I’m posting…
