Question of the Day

What Comforts You?

What Comforts You?

What did your mommy or daddy used to make you when you were sick at home? And if you have them, what do you make for your kids? As per my last post, I’m home sick, and a little thought on twitter inspired conversation about what we were given when we were home sick: alexaclark: Why does it seem SO wrong to eat toast slathered w/ butter & covered in white sugar yet add a little cinnamon it is instantly comfort food? ccath: @alexaclark Cinnamon toast! It never fails to comfort me as it was a childhood treat for me.…

QotD: Saving For A Rainy Day

QotD: Saving For A Rainy Day

Well, it’s not exactly that I’m saving up, but what I want is a shiny new Canon S5IS. No saving is necessary, since for my birthday Gerry handed me a big fat envelope filled with enough cash to buy me one courtesy of mom, the in-laws and of course Gerry himself. I guess they were listening when I said “all I want is a new camera.” Happy Birthday to ME!!! Though the gift came with some stipulations: (in my b’day card from the in-laws) “Looking for more photos of flowers for my screen saver” (self-imposed) I can’t get a new…

QotD: Guest vs. Host

For a full sit-down dinner with several guests, would you rather be the one cooking or do you prefer to just show up and eat? I love to cook, and love to be cooked for, so… hummm… I’m have to pick – Guest.  Though it’s almost impossible to keep me out of the kitchen. Though I love to cook for my friends without my full team, my dinner parties would be failures.  I need someone else to make sure the house is clean, the table is beautiful, the guests are greeted because I just want to hide in the kitchen…

QotD: You’d Never Believe It

QotD: You’d Never Believe It

What story from your wild-and-crazy youth would nobody believe about you today? A dear, but still relatively new, friend of mine said to me today "you know, I'm nothing like I was 20 years ago".** and I thought to myself, "self", I thought, "how much have you changed in the last 20 years?" Fass 1986 Oh sure, I'm bigger.  But fundamentally, I'm the same.  Perhaps that's why I have so many dear, but still relatively new, friends. So, how many of you would believe I'd go parading about stage in an outfit like that?  Ya, I thought so. ** dear…

Pirates, Ninjas or Cowboys?

Pirates, Ninjas or Cowboys?

Ninjas @ The Ex As my new identity starts appearing piece-by-piece in my newly-assigned mailbox,   I found myself confronted by this question: Pirates, Ninjas or Cowboys? It may seem a trite question to be asked as you are ordering your Grande Gold Coast Roast and Cranberry Muffin.  However, as Chris, my barista, pointed out "you never really know a person until you know which major archetype they'd pick: Pirate, Ninja or Cowboy." I guess, with my fresh new identity, I must reevaluate this question and see which archetype the New Me picks. After some deep thought while I sip my coffee and watch the…

Best Day Ever

Best Day Ever

For those of you reading via RSS or email, Rohan posed an excellent question in the comments of yesterday's Have The Best Day of Your Life post. Essentially he asked, and I paraphrase, what would be included in the Best Day of Your Life? I'm pretty happy with the days life has dealt me so far and I expect to continue stumbling upon Best Days on a regular basis.  The ones I encounter in the future will likely be comprised of days filled with: exploring far and interesting places, encountering challenges and finding wicked and exciting solutions me, my camera…

QotD: Stop Me If You’ve Heard This One

What’s the infamous story people tell about you? Submitted by Cherney. I have no idea… perhaps they don’t tell it if I’m around. [stampgeek - there is no need for you to take that as a reason to tell one!]

QotD: Dude Where’s My Keys?

QotD: Dude Where’s My Keys?

What’s the story behind a time when you got locked out? Banff Springs Hotel We were in Banff staying at the Banff Springs Hotel. I woke up early and saw that there was a little fire escape balcony right beside our bedroom.  So I left Ger in bed, snagged the room key and snuck out to see the view from the balcony.  As I stepped out onto the cold metal straps of the fire escape, the door snapped shut behind me.   It snapped shut and locked. While our bedroom window was right beside the fire escape, I couldn’t reach it.…

Saving Time?

“Hi. I’d like to make a deposit to my Daylight Savings Account. No wait.  A withdrawal. No, that can’t be right.  Spring ahead, fall… back?  Spring forward, fall down… Oh, damn!  Can I just please have an hour of what everyone else is having!” As all of you who have ever arranged to meet me at a specific time, time isn’t a real thing to me. Or more specifically, it isn’t linear. Oh sure, it passes for me just like for everyone else but sometimes it takes hours for the clock to tick away 60 minutes, and other times I look…

QotD: MmmCookies

QotD: MmmCookies

Did you order Girl Scout cookies this year?  What kind? Phht!  If they aren’t made with real Girl Scouts I’m not buying! In truth, if they aren’t sold by real Girl Scouts I’m not buying!  I have very strong opinions about parents selling for their kids.  I know the primary purpose is fund raising and the more sales people the better, but the secondary (and no less important) purpose is self-esteem through achievement and that doesn’t come from parents doing their work for them. Hey, I’m all for referrals but parents should not shill for their kids.  It’s not teaching…
