Honoured to be the Feature Member Blog for Food Bloggers of Canada.

Honoured to be the Feature Member Blog for Food Bloggers of Canada.

How cool is this: the Food Bloggers of Canada have featured unsweetened.ca as their Featured Member Blog. My answers to the Q&A range from food-related to not so food-related and intensely personal, but that is the nature of unsweetened.ca, or as Gerry says unsweetened is  “pure, undiluted, unsweetened Alexa” The fact I had to use my old banner really highlights my need for some unsweetened.ca logo/banner design work by someone who knows what they are doing! On a less self-critical note, I find it kind of cool that this feature was published the day before unsweetened.ca turned 9. Featured member…

Today: 15000th photo to Flickr, and my 9th blogiversary.

Today marks the 9th anniversary of my personal blog – unsweetened.ca (yes, this one!) The photo above is also the 15000 photo I have loaded to my personal account on Flickr. Yes 15000! If I ever wonder if I’m producing enough, this just answered it for me. Though I have a backlog of photos, posts and ideas just bursting to get out, so don’t expect me to stop any time soon.

Judging the San Pellegrino Almost Famous Chef Competition

Judging the San Pellegrino Almost Famous Chef Competition

Well that was a lot of fun!  Last night I judged the San Pellegrino Almost Famous Chef Competition.  6 culinary students competing to win the Canadian Regionals and progress to the finals in California.   It was a nail biter!  There were leaders and early favourites in the kitchen, but it wasn’t until the last plate was served that I had a decision on who I thought did the best.

Almost Famous Competition

Almost Famous Competition

I am almost famous. Famous enough that people I’ve never met will stop me in the airport to say: “aren’t you Alexa Clark?” But not famous enough to get free plane rides. Famous enough to have a stalker But not famous enough that they know they are my stalker. Famous enough to be considered as a guest judge in the S.Pellegrino Almost Famous Chef’s Competition. But not famous enough to be invited, just invited to compete. Perhaps I should back up a little, and make this a lot less about me. S.Pellegrino runs an annual competition for culinary students called…

Chicken Farmers Profile Lex

Chicken Farmers Profile Lex

Box of Chickens — Originally uploaded by LexnGer The Chicken Farmer’s of Canada blog – Chicken Feeds profiled me recently in their new series of Food Blogger Profiles. This is the interview that I needed to find a euphamism for “pissed off” for, I ended up using “upset”. Not as accurate or as representative of the drama, so where you see “upset” please read “pissed off”! My favourite line of the whole interview: “I left Barcelona traumatized by my own rudeness.” You can read it here 11 new laying hens are growing up on the island… starting in a cardboard…

Lex’s Busy Week In Media

Lex’s Busy Week In Media

This week was a surprisingly busy week for me in media. Especially since I didn’t really do anything media-worthy this week. Oh sure, I’m working on HoHoTO again, but none of this attention came from that. Here’s where I showed up: National Post – Can Seaton House remake save George Street? I’m asked my opinion as longtime area resident and business owner about the proposed changes to George Street & Seaton House.  Without the fuller context, my quote sounds a snobbier than when I said it (to me anyway), but it’s still pretty accurate.  New residents to the neighbourhood would…
