March was O’Canada’s Food Month and Brett wrapped the month up with a list of 10 Notable Canadian Food Blogs & Sites and he included unsweetened.ca saying: Unsweetened.ca:  A lot going on with this site with quite strong culinary content Yup, “a lot going on” that’s for sure.   Check out the other 9 blogs mentioned on O’Canada’s post: Some Notable Canada Food Blogs & Sites

Chicken Farmers Profile Lex

Chicken Farmers Profile Lex

Box of Chickens — Originally uploaded by LexnGer The Chicken Farmer’s of Canada blog – Chicken Feeds profiled me recently in their new series of Food Blogger Profiles. This is the interview that I needed to find a euphamism for “pissed off” for, I ended up using “upset”. Not as accurate or as representative of the drama, so where you see “upset” please read “pissed off”! My favourite line of the whole interview: “I left Barcelona traumatized by my own rudeness.” You can read it here 11 new laying hens are growing up on the island… starting in a cardboard…

5YAT: I Blame CBC For My Meltdown

5YAT: I Blame CBC For My Meltdown

26 December, 2004 – Cold & Windy –14º [This post is part of the 5 Years Ago Today Series] Mainland: still wide open in HUGE patches and the gap is gaping. Beautiful ice structures where the ice formed against the rocks and then lifted off them with the tides. Glen-side: Looks like 8-10” thick when I walked out parallel to Long Beach. Big snow and wind tonight and tomorrow up to 20cm snow expected with winds gusting up to 70km.  With the impending BIG wind I won’t be crossing – I might just blow away. Not that I’ve dropped that…

Lex’s Busy Week In Media

Lex’s Busy Week In Media

This week was a surprisingly busy week for me in media. Especially since I didn’t really do anything media-worthy this week. Oh sure, I’m working on HoHoTO again, but none of this attention came from that. Here’s where I showed up: National Post – Can Seaton House remake save George Street? I’m asked my opinion as longtime area resident and business owner about the proposed changes to George Street & Seaton House.  Without the fuller context, my quote sounds a snobbier than when I said it (to me anyway), but it’s still pretty accurate.  New residents to the neighbourhood would…

We will, we will Blog you!

We will, we will Blog you!

From Rick Spence‘s Sweep! Sweep! to Rannies photomontage of the seating chart last night’s adventure in National Television has been pretty effectively blogged. Add in Ryan & Adam‘s backstage video and you’ll have the whole experience… sans the kickin’ brunch with Eden & Kate, but that was just for us. In case you didn’t know. We won!!!! The bloggers swept the whole thing: Team Captain – Samantha Bee – Won. Team Bloggers – Won. Best Individual Score – Rick Spence (and co-back row rowdy) – Won. Personally, after doing pathetically on the pre-game online Mental Gymnastic’s (I scored somewhere between…

Test The Nation Now With Lex, Kate & Rannie!

Test The Nation Now With Lex, Kate & Rannie!

The 21st century: have you been paying attention? This century is only in its first decade and already there’s a test? I know many of you don’t watch television… but would you turn on CBC if you knew I was going to be on it?  What if you knew, for certain, that I’d be doing something other than shilling CheapEats? How about if you knew that you could play along and show me up for the trivia-sluggard I truly am? Live on television, I’ll be competing with 35 other Bloggers on Test The Nation: Trivia, a national quiz show where…

50 Paces: A Life Of It’s Own

I’ve been back in Toronto for over a week now and it seems that the 50 Paces Project has taken on a life of it’s own. Sue told me that her friend, who works in Social Services, is using 50 Paces as an allegory to increase intra-family communications with her client. How cool is that!?!? Grant Kerr’s article ran in the Telegraph Journal‘s Salon on Saturday.  It’s not online, but I hear the photos are great (thanks to Cindy Wilson). I haven’t heard much about the article.  I’m hoping that’s not worrisome.  (Okay, it’s worrisome because I’m paranoid. I’m hoping it’s ill-founded.)…

Media, media, media

Media, media, media

Friday was designated photo-hanging day. We were joined by Mary (seen above) from CBC TV, Grant & Cindy from the Telegraph Journal. They each walked across the river to meet us at the first tree. Then came with us as we hung photos on the first 10 trees. Constantly asking each other to get out of their shots of the trees and us hanging photos. Part of the problem was that I kept making them help. Hey, there were 3 of them and only 2 of us. No way they were going to get to just stand around without helping.…

CBC Morning

CBC Morning

To be in town for a 7:45am interview, I needed to meet Sandy at the store between 7am and 7:10am. Not so big a deal if I hit the river at 6:40am with the dogsled. Well that is if the dogs bother to move slightly faster than molasses. They didn’t. Then they dumped of on my ass halfway down the hill. Twice. When I pointed out they were bad dogs and that I’d like them to go faster on the way home, they agreed and took off without me. Another benefit of the 50paces trees is that bad dogs some…

CBC this morning

Yes, it’s true, I was on the CBC this morning talking about the 50 Paces Project… and yes, my typing has improved because I’m using a real keyboard.  I have 150 photos to label that need me to have internet access to match the label with the photo.  Kindly my friends Sandy & MJ are letting me hid out in the basement with their computer and get my fix do my work. We’ll be installing the photos Friday. I’ve also found that I CAN post photos and blog posts to unsweetened.ca from my cell phone.  Though the photos aren’t anything…

Trees In!

Trees In!

All the trees are in – woo hoo! And someone told the CBC about the project. Now I’ve been invited in for an interview tomorrow morning at 7:30am. I was hoping dad could come too, but logistically it’s not going to work.
