Dear Mr or Ms Easter Bunny, I would like to request, if possible, that you save the chocolate this year and only hide one Big Green Egg for me this year. I have been able to try one out at my friend Bill's house and I'm in love.
We had a lot of Chef obsessions, favourites and stories shared in the #AFChef13 #ChefObsession Contest – Tell Me Your Canadian Chef Obsession, Win Dinner at Fabbrica. What a great set of entries to chose from. You can see everyone’s stories in the comments of the original post but let me give you a run down of the Chefs that were mentioned. Just in case you are looking for someone obsession worthy to cook you dinner, teach you to cook or be an inspiration! Here is the list of Chefs that do just that: Aaron Joseph Bear Robe – @keriwacafe…
It’s Pi Day again! This year with the release of Life of Pi the movie, you can now celebrate mathematically, culinary, literarily or cinematically. Check out Life of Pi in it’s two forms, Pie in it’s many forms and contemplate the most popular of all irrational numbers. I didn’t plan right this year and so I can’t indulge in a pie with every meal today. But of course I’ll be on the look out for pie options for lunch and dinner. For Pi Day, I like to stretch my definition a little so I’m not just eating big slices of…
Quebec City is beautiful and romantic in the winter, even if you are alone. I love wandering through on a warm summer day. But for me, winter is the time to visit Quebec City. The Old City especially feels designed for snow, and takes on a special kind of intimacy and warmth when it gets cold. I always find myself drawn to the Old City and have only once stayed outside the gates. I’ve been lucky that even when staying with friends, they lived just inside the gates. Perhaps drawn like I am to the history and the magic of…
Already using the Nordic Ware that was delivered as part of the Food Bloggers of Canada Conference swag. Gerry said as we plunked this onto the bbq “I wonder what the people without Nordic Ware are doing for lunch” We have plans afoot to develop some recipes for the Nordic Ware 365 Chicken Leg and Jalapeno Griller that will involve Canadian Beef (of course). After our first use of it and this sticky tandoori sauce, we were very impressed. The sauce got all over and baked down to a hard black char. And the whole thing wiped clean with little…
This just in from from @Nordicware #FBC2013 Swag! Seriously, everyone going to the first ever Food Bloggers of Canada Conference were sent these from Nordic Ware, along with a challenge to use them, blog about it and get entered for a random draw for an even bigger set. Wow! www.foodbloggersofcanada.com/fbc-2013/ And yes, I’m attending and I’m also a speaker.
You’d think that I knew how to cook with all my posts on recipes and food. Small things like having a professional cook for a father, growing up working in restaurant kitchens and working as a camp cook at 15 would lead you to believe I know my way around cookware. And yet the T-fal Sensorielle pan had me completely confuddled. As part of the Canadian Beef Brand Ambassadorship, each of the Ambassadors received a wonderful non-stick T-fal pan with Thermo-spot Technology, and a batch of Hamburger Helpers. This was to be a part of our Big Batch Beef experimentation…
I got a lot of recommendations, many from my sponsor Tourisme Québec, about places to see and eat while driving from Toronto through Quebec and into New Brunswick on #LexGoFurther – A Ford Escape. More than I could use in one trip, but I though it might be helpful for other people doing the same drive, and for me on future road trips east. Recommendations on What to See and Do (and Eat) in Quebec City From Julie Tyrios My reco: Le Lapin Sauté in Quebec City. Divine. http://www.lapinsaute.com/ #LexGoFurther You must go. MUST. It’s too bad it’s cold for…
My plan as I headed out onto the road for the first big chunk of this road trip was to take it slow and steady. I’d never driven this distance by myself before, I’d always had someone to spell me off, and I’d never driven this long alone ever. Plus, this was February. You never know what weather is going to blow in. It could be sunny and warm, it could be blistering cold with hailstorms and, given the distance I was driving, it could be all that and more. My first priority was making sure I was awake, alert…
The first step of Lex Go Further – a Ford Escape was picking up the Ford Escape. Rannie was there when I got it to give me a run down on the Sync & MyFord Touch, Hands-free Lift Gate, and specifically the Active Park Assist Feature which I can’t imagine anyone wanting to try their own for the first time! (But more on that later). I got the car around 1pm, did the run through with Rannie and headed back downtown. That left me calculating the best times to hit the road in order to avoid rush hour traffic. Sounds…
I was in at Luma today talking to Jason Bangerter about our upcoming panel at the Food Bloggers of Canada Conference in April. It should be a lively discussion and with Alison Fryer of the Cookbook Store moderating you know we’ll be kept on our toes. Sadly I was pretty sniffly when I arrived at Luma, but Ben kept my tea hot and honey close at hand, and when I asked if I could get a soup after our meeting, Jason brought this out to see if it would make me feel better, and cut through the hell that being…
For the most part, I was alone while on this trip, but I did have some companionship during the trip. Gerry joined me for the warm-up leg from Toronto to Kingston, which meant once I got the car I had to wait for him to finish up his day before we could hit the road… waiting waiting waiting… I’d say I was patient, but I’d be lying. The Ford Escape itself was definitely one of my travel companions, too but I’m not much of a namer so it/she will be referred to as “the car”, the “Ford Escape”, “it” or…
In celebration of this year’s S. Pellegrino Almost Famous Chef Competition, San Pellegrino has given me a $150 Gift Certificate to Chef Mark McEwan’s Fabbrica to give away to one of you. Well, one of you who is brave enough to tell me about your Chef Obsession. Tell me about your favourite Canadian Chefs – each chef you tell me about gets you another entry in the random draw. You don’t have to know them personally, but you do need to tell me something about them and why you are obsessing over them (or they are your favourites). I won’t…
