Then The Eat Street Cookbook Arrived

Then The Eat Street Cookbook Arrived

Gerry just came into the office with a big padded manila envelop (I was going to say package, but I know some of you would read that wrong.) Inside was my last prize – the new Eat Street Cookbook. It’s filled with great recipes and beautiful photos. Even the trucks I visit the most – El Gastronomo Vagabundo and Caplansky’s Deli Truck (aka Thundering Thelma). And from the episode I was IN – Smoke’s Poutinerie . For the West Coasters, don’t worry, Japadog and Vij’s Railway Express are in here too! They’ve included a Truck Index and a Recipe Index.…

Marilynn’ Meu Bandolim

Marilynn’ Meu Bandolim

I found a box in my office this morning filled with all these great CDs from my friend Marilynn Mair, complete with licorice from my friends who forwarded them to me. Marilynn’ Meu Bandolim — Originally uploaded by LexnGer The last time Marilynn gave me one of her CDs, it became the soundtrack to my summer. Weekend mornings I’d grab a coffee, put Enigmatica into my CD player and settle in on the deck for a morning with the sun, the music and my thoughts. So I couldn’t be more delighted to find this box of CDs waiting for me.…

Some Of My Favourite Folks At Delicious

Some Of My Favourite Folks At Delicious

If you haven’t heard there is a new Food Show in town – Delicious Food Show! As the title suggests some of my favourite food professionals are involved. (Not all, but some).  I know, favouritism… but the reason I like food festivals and events is that I get to see talented, interesting and friendly food folks making and serving tasty, interesting and exciting food.  So isn’t favouritism kind of built in? So here are the folks I’m eager to see again! Chef Matt Kantor on Saturday at 2:30pm (note the change in day and time!) doing a demo on Modernist…

Would You Pose With A Pickle?

A few years ago, inspired by my love of the Bick’s Pickle Alien, M.Tinto showed up on my birthday with a couple of bottles of Bick’s pickles that had fuzzy finger puppets on them.  The finger puppets weren’t actually the alien, which generated a fair amount of conversation about the missed marketing opportunity, and a whole lot of rude comments about finger puppets. However the pickles became the star of the show with Mondo encouraging everyone at the table to pose with a pickle.  A tradition was born. This year with 2 pickle events, 5 types of pickles and lots…

More Love Hangover

More Love Hangover

So… I’ve had my coffee… (unfortunately not the kick-ass coffee I won in the raffle gift basket from RocketFuelCoffee.com because my grinder is broken…) but I digress. I’ve had my coffee. My 10am call is actually 10am Vancouver time (yay!) and now I can take a moment or two to SHOW you what HoHoTO was like.  Unfortunately not my photos since my camera stayed in the bag all night while I wrangled Raffle Prizes. My Raffle Booth Babes!  The most effective raffle wranglers, working like clockwork together to do 2-4 prize draws every 10 minutes from 8pm-10:30pm. AND hand out…

Love Hangover

Love Hangover

Wow! Seriously, WOW! I’m sore, tired, hoarse. My feet ache, my head aches, my back aches, and I’m overflowing with happiness! Last night, we raised over $48,000 for the Daily Bread Food Bank at HoHoTO! $48,424! We raised it with ticket sales and sponsors. We raised it with raffles and photos. We raised it with twitter auctions for tickets that had already been sold. We raised it with the most amazing community of people! So thank you Toronto for giving this girl a Love Hangover. I’m honoured and delighted to be a part of this community who sees a need…
