Leg 5 – Storms, Puppy, Snow, Fires – #LexGoFurther – A Ford Escape

Leg 5 – Storms, Puppy, Snow, Fires – #LexGoFurther – A Ford Escape

Prepare yourself.  I have left you waiting for the continued adventures of Lex Go Further – A Ford Escape for far too long.  It is now time for photos of the puppy interspersed with snow, food and a couple of tweets.  But mainly industrial-grade puppy cuteness. When last we spoke, I had just gotten onto a skidoo for the first time in my life to be whisked away to the island which has been a part of my life since I discovered it and claimed it for my own when I was 3. Here’s a quick summary of what was…

First Impressions of the Olympus OM-D.

First Impressions of the Olympus OM-D.

It’s true. It has happened. Let the bells ring out and the doves fly. I bought a new camera! Huzza, hurrah, hooray, I finally made the decision to buy an Olympus OM-D from the guys at Aden Camera who were incredibly helpful and had the best deal in town. You have put up with long months of carping and moaning about the state of my Canon cameras (possibly years).  You have sat by while I road testing the Olympus E-PL3 (photos)- a micro 4/3s provided by Olympus for my Spain trip; and the Samsung NX20 (photos) – a 4/3s from…

Today: 15000th photo to Flickr, and my 9th blogiversary.

Today: 15000th photo to Flickr, and my 9th blogiversary.

Today marks the 9th anniversary of my personal blog – unsweetened.ca (yes, this one!) The photo above is also the 15000 photo I have loaded to my personal account on Flickr. Yes 15000! If I ever wonder if I’m producing enough, this just answered it for me. Though I have a backlog of photos, posts and ideas just bursting to get out, so don’t expect me to stop any time soon.

Instagram, Intellectual Property, and Permission

Instagram, Intellectual Property, and Permission

Marketers & IP folk – I need your take on the third party use of  Instagram photos. As I’m sure you know  (and if you don’t… hey!) we do a Photo of the Week series on the CheapEats blogs  (Toronto / Ottawa) which we’ve been running using our Flickr Groups (Toronto / Ottawa  and very soon Vancouver / Montreal )   I’d to expand the submission options to Instagram, a la Gastropost who allows people to submit photos for their weekly challenge simply by tagging them in Instagram. But here’s my question: is tagging enough to give permission for reuse? I.e.…

My Xmas Saints & Angels

My Xmas Saints & Angels

Inspired by this shot taken 5 years ago, we have taken to getting our holiday dining companions to pose with their chargers. Some achieve very angelic visages, some a little more humours, but they have all been good sports. If you want to recreate this experience with your friends and family, remember a couple of tips: 1. always pose after the wine has been opened, poured and consumed. Makes for more amusing photos and more patience all around (though occasionally fuzzier photos) 2. always use the chargers because A. they are usually a little larger and shiner than your dinner…

Mini Red Curry Meat Pies

Mini Red Curry Meat Pies

The last batch of mini meat pies just came out of the oven and cooling for tonight’s #MeatLuk hosted by @foodie411 These are a version of an appetiser I’ve served at cocktail parties in the past, but I switched it up a bit by using Thai red curry paste in lieu of the original curry powder. In fact I used the same curry paste I made for the most recent Chefs #LoveCDNbeef dish. I need to tweak the recipe a bit more since the subtle curry flavour in the filling becomes even more subtle when it’s in the pastry. Possibly…

Yes, those are electric lights and I am ashore. Yes, those are electric lights and I am ashore. It had been crazy windy today with threats of more.
