Solo Road Trip – #LexGoFurther – A Ford Escape

Solo Road Trip – #LexGoFurther – A Ford Escape

It’s hard to believe that at 48, after doing road trips all my life and traveling alone since I was 5, that I have never, ever been on a long-distance driving trip alone.  Never just gone where and when the road took me, stopping, exploring, turning left whenever the mood strikes. I’ve always had someone with me who’d say, quite reasonably, “aren’t we going that way?” I love driving and every time I get behind the wheel of a car, I get an overwhelming burst of wanderlust. But I have never owned my own car and every time I have…

5YAT: 24 Hours Ashore

5YAT: 24 Hours Ashore

20 December, 2004 – Snowy & Blowy & Grey [This post is part of the 5 Years Ago Today Series] Ack!  Dark! Though it is 0530. Happy I found the head light. Breakfast for me and the animals, packing and then strapped on the sled and started trudging (0715). [view of the island from the glen-shore as the sun started peeking up] Crossing was good! The snow on the ice was very slightly crusty and very slightly damp but it was an easy crossing. Then to the store & to town. As I drove through Rothesay more snow and wind…

Thanksgiving Weekend All Way

Thanksgiving Weekend All Way

I know, I know, you’re all chomping at the bit to know how our Thanksgiving went. My excuse is that we had a busy weekend with Mom, Andy, CIUT‘s The First Word, and 14 guests for dinner.  Add to that the fact I jumped on a bus and headed to Ottawa before all the dishes were even done, thanks honey!, and well, I was just too lazy to keep you up to date. So I give you our weekend in images, starting with our trip to the AGO (you can see my thoughts on the Andy Warhol exhibit in the…

Eventful 4way

Eventful 4way

Today was a surprising day.  I expected it to be fairly slow and easy since I was packing up… but it was event filled. First, The News EMC published an article on CheapEats Ottawa and our call for recommendations.  Tom Collins, yes that's his name, wrote a great article and we're already seeing recommendations flowing in. Next Rockr & Junkii decided to take me the open-air play in Strathcona Park.  This was a traditional summer activity for me when I lived in Ottawa, and it was great to go again. AND, in the line up to the play, I ran…

Holland in Kingston

After a wonderful brunch with Baba, I am answering the “command performance” call from my mother to get my laptop to K’ton for the weekend.  My aunt is visiting from Oustggiest.  (I know I spelled that wrong – but I’m on the road… feel free to give me the correct spelling!) In the interest of familial harmony, I am missing the BBQ at Casa Frame’Ehm and a goodbye bash for Miss Rogue. This will hopefully not cause any friend-ilial disharmony. In the interest of packing light, I have stuffed my suitcase with menus, restaurant profile, cables and plugs.  I did…

Heading Home.

Heading Home.

Sunset over the tip of Long Island the night I crossed to the island.  Viewed from the boat. A number of people have asked why I headed to the island in November. So… on Thursday Nov 25th my father had a “massive heart attack” in the midst of gale force winds. (Keep reading by clicking below – or skip to …. December ….) He took a handful of aspirin and lay down for 2 days. on Saturday Nov 27th, when the gale force winds finally died down, Diane crossed the river and brought dad to shore. Yeah Di!!! (thanks to…
