The last 9 hours of #56hrsofXmasCooking
My family is nestled all snug in their beds, while visions of roast beast dance through my head. It’s bunny in the tree, and me with my cup, planning it out, on what we will sup.

Solo Road Trip – #LexGoFurther – A Ford Escape
It’s hard to believe that at 48, after doing road trips all my life and traveling alone since I was 5, that I have never, ever been on a long-distance driving trip alone.  Never just gone where and when the road took me, stopping, exploring, turning left whenever the mood strikes. I’ve always had someone with me who’d say, quite reasonably, “ [...]

5YAT: 24 Hours Ashore
20 December, 2004 – Snowy & Blowy & Grey [This post is part of the 5 Years Ago Today Series] Ack!  Dark! Though it is 0530. Happy I found the head light. Breakfast for me and the animals, packing and then strapped on the sled and started trudging (0715). [view of the island from the glen-shore as the sun started peeking up] Crossing [...]

Italian Family Feast Night

Italian Family Feast Night
On Monday, I mentioned that Ger’s cousins were coming for dinner. I think I mentioned (and am too lazy to go check) that one of the cousins coming, Ben, was trained by and still occasionally caters with Jamie Kennedy.  No small thing cooking for or with the likes of him. Though lord knows, this is not the first time I’ve found my [...]

Thanksgiving Weekend All Way

Thanksgiving Weekend All Way
I know, I know, you’re all chomping at the bit to know how our Thanksgiving went. My excuse is that we had a busy weekend with Mom, Andy, CIUT‘s The First Word, and 14 guests for dinner.  Add to that the fact I jumped on a bus and headed to Ottawa before all the dishes were even done, thanks honey!, and well, I was just too lazy t [...]

Eventful 4way

Eventful 4way
Today was a surprising day.  I expected it to be fairly slow and easy since I was packing up… but it was event filled. First, The News EMC published an article on CheapEats Ottawa and our call for recommendations.  Tom Collins, yes that’s his name, wrote a great article and we’re already seeing recommendations flowing in. [...]

Holland in Kingston

Holland in Kingston
After a wonderful brunch with Baba, I am answering the “command performance” call from my mother to get my laptop to K’ton for the weekend.  My aunt is visiting from Oegstgeest. In the interest of familial harmony, I am missing the BBQ at Casa Frame’Ehm and a goodbye bash for Miss Rogue. This will hopefully not cause a [...]

Heading Home.

Heading Home.
Sunset over the tip of Long Island the night I crossed to the island.  Viewed from the boat. A number of people have asked why I headed to the island in November. So… on Thursday Nov 25th my father had a “massive heart attack” in the midst of gale force winds. (Keep reading by clicking below – or skip to …. Dece [...]

Day 28 – Saturday – Take your cousin ...

Day 28 – Saturday – Take your cousin bowling – take her bowling.
It was the best of games, it was the worst of games… Dr.C & Mr.B took me bowling today. It was silly fun. Dr.C assured us that she was going to lose, which in fact, she did.  Though she had some stiff competition from me.  One round I bowled 1 on at least 5 frames… yes I said “1″ it was not a typo… perhaps a bolo? We were joi [...]

Day 4 – Family Day

Day 4 – Family Day
Today was spent talking with my mother, my father and 2 of my cousins – Dr.C and Dr.E. Dr.C has a PhD in Linguistics, and Dr.E has one in Communications. Smart family. Mabo drove me in again then I jumped on a bus to meet Dr.C at a Starbucks. Met, talked, expounded, wandered, postulated and then went our separate ways. A lovely morning. [...]
