Charming guy, friendly, with a great last name if only he spelled it correctly.  Michael is one of those people who leave an impression, leave a mark, leave you laughing, everywhere they go. He's eager to lend a hand, find solutions, make a difference and challenge set patterns of thought.

Making The World Suck A Little Less With #HoHoTO

Making The World Suck A Little Less With #HoHoTO

Have I told you about the little thing I do called HoHoTO? Some people call it “the party twitter built”. Some people call it “a kick-ass party” Some people call it “Me and 600+ of my closest friends” Some people call it “a remarkable examples of a hyper-connected social media movement using the power of self-organizing online groups to make a real world difference.” Techvibes called it “social networking for a cause” Queen Rania of Jordan cited it as an example of online activism making an offline difference Daily Bread calls it their 3rd highest “3rd Party Fundraising event” I…

It Was A #FoodStock Sunday

It Was A #FoodStock Sunday

It feels like much of our weekend was spent at protests, but this was the one we had to make it to: FoodStock. With a proposed mega quarry threatening 2,300 acres of prime agricultural land, pristine aquifers, and endangered species in Melancthon Township, just north of Toronto, the Canadian Chefs’ Congress took action.  100 chefs from across Canada came together to hold a fundraiser on land made available by the farmers still working the land in the region threatened.

More Love Hangover

More Love Hangover

So… I’ve had my coffee… (unfortunately not the kick-ass coffee I won in the raffle gift basket from RocketFuelCoffee.com because my grinder is broken…) but I digress. I’ve had my coffee. My 10am call is actually 10am Vancouver time (yay!) and now I can take a moment or two to SHOW you what HoHoTO was like.  Unfortunately not my photos since my camera stayed in the bag all night while I wrangled Raffle Prizes. My Raffle Booth Babes!  The most effective raffle wranglers, working like clockwork together to do 2-4 prize draws every 10 minutes from 8pm-10:30pm. AND hand out…

Love Hangover

Love Hangover

Wow! Seriously, WOW! I’m sore, tired, hoarse. My feet ache, my head aches, my back aches, and I’m overflowing with happiness! Last night, we raised over $48,000 for the Daily Bread Food Bank at HoHoTO! $48,424! We raised it with ticket sales and sponsors. We raised it with raffles and photos. We raised it with twitter auctions for tickets that had already been sold. We raised it with the most amazing community of people! So thank you Toronto for giving this girl a Love Hangover. I’m honoured and delighted to be a part of this community who sees a need…

Lunch Money Day

Lunch Money Day

Hi guys, as you might know, I’m on Second Harvest‘s steering committee for Toronto Taste 2008. (more on that later)   I just got a note from Second Harvest looking for volunteers for their upcoming Lunch Money Day, so I thought I’d take a moment and spread the word: On Lunch Money Day, February 21, 2008,  Second Harvest asks Torontonians to brown-bag their lunch and donate the cost of a bought lunch to Second Harvest. Every $5 provides 10 healthy and nutritious meals to people in need, including children, men and women in different programs across the GTA, including at women’s…

QotD: MmmCookies

QotD: MmmCookies

Did you order Girl Scout cookies this year?  What kind? Phht!  If they aren’t made with real Girl Scouts I’m not buying! In truth, if they aren’t sold by real Girl Scouts I’m not buying!  I have very strong opinions about parents selling for their kids.  I know the primary purpose is fund raising and the more sales people the better, but the secondary (and no less important) purpose is self-esteem through achievement and that doesn’t come from parents doing their work for them. Hey, I’m all for referrals but parents should not shill for their kids.  It’s not teaching…

Paging Dr. Frank’n'Gordon

Paging Dr. Frank’n'Gordon

In my continuing commentary on spokes-creatures, I bring you the beaver. This is not just any beaver, this is an official Bell Canada Frank or Gordon, unfortunately I'm unable to tell which. (yes, I lifted the tail, it didn't help) This Frank'n'Gordon was found in the Rideau Centre in a small Bell Mobility kiosk dressed in a surgical mask and OR gear fundraising for the Montreal Children's Hospital with a number of his colleagues.  For just $7 you could take him home. Medical outfit included. Continue reading "Paging Dr. Frank'n'Gordon" on unsweetened.ca »
