Instagramming My Week

Instagramming My Week

I have recently started using Instagram more.  After balking the trend and lamenting loudly, and frequently, about Instagram’s lack of collaborative, community-building and searching tools, I finally caved.   I blame the Food Bloggers of Canada conference. Well, that and Instagram’s slick and quick interface which makes it so easy to share a photo and push it out onto my social spaces. (Where I can collaborate and build communities). Since I’m just getting rolling with Instagram it’s one of the few (only?) social media spaces where I have less than 500 followers AND where I have a higher follow-to-follower ratio.…

Who is this Travel Bunny?

Who is this Travel Bunny?

With the recent spurt of travel posts around #LexGoFurther, I have been sharing a fair number of photos of Travel Bunny, or the Travel Bunny as he is known to some. As a result, I’ve decided to answer some of the questions I've been getting from people who haven’t met Travel Bunny before.

Leg 1 – Toronto to Kingston – #LexGoFurther – A Ford Escape

Leg 1 – Toronto to Kingston – #LexGoFurther – A Ford Escape

The first step of Lex Go Further – a Ford Escape was picking up the Ford Escape. Rannie was there when I got it to give me a run down on the Sync & MyFord Touch,  Hands-free Lift Gate, and specifically the Active Park Assist Feature  which I can’t imagine anyone wanting to try their own for the first time!  (But more on that later).  I got the car around 1pm, did the run through with Rannie and headed back downtown. That left me calculating the best times to hit the road in order to avoid rush hour traffic. Sounds…

Solo Road Trip – #LexGoFurther – A Ford Escape

Solo Road Trip – #LexGoFurther – A Ford Escape

It’s hard to believe that at 48, after doing road trips all my life and traveling alone since I was 5, that I have never, ever been on a long-distance driving trip alone.  Never just gone where and when the road took me, stopping, exploring, turning left whenever the mood strikes. I’ve always had someone with me who’d say, quite reasonably, “aren’t we going that way?” I love driving and every time I get behind the wheel of a car, I get an overwhelming burst of wanderlust. But I have never owned my own car and every time I have…

Beadery – shopping with mom for her ingredients.

The Beadery in Queen West shopping with mom for her ingredients. It’s only fair since I made her shop with me for mine. Besides she makes such beautiful jewelery with these beads and gives much of it to me!

Lex & Kris Go Shopping

Lex & Kris Go Shopping

Mom does all the trying on, I sit and photograph her. Until they tell me I’m not allowed to take photos in Kaliyana. Oops. An interesting note: Kaliyana‘s tag line is “Unique clothes for women – most guys just don’t get it – “ Though truthfully sometimes even daughters don’t get it. Their stuff is sometimes gorgeous, sometimes silly, always different.

Mom

Mom

It was my mother’s birthday on Monday, and unfortunately we weren’t able to be in the same place at the same time.  Though I did get to drop in and see her a couple of days earlier, thanks to my friend Leona and our roadtrip to PAB. I thought it might be fun to do a little collage of the photos I pulled together for mom’s retirement party.

Water Damaged Bathing Beauties

Water Damaged Bathing Beauties

I’m amazed by what water can do to a slide. This shot has everything but mom washed out – and she is almost perfectly silhouetted. I recently rescued a some of my grandfather’s slides that were damaged in a basement flood. Most of the colour had peeled & bleed off this one leaving my mother and a ghost image of my grandmother.

And She’s Done! [JiN roundup Part #2]

And She’s Done! [JiN roundup Part #2]

So there we were driving to Kingston for mom’s retirement. You heard about mom’s retirement, right? I’m sure I’ve mentioned it at least 3 or 4 times, or more. We arrived late Thursday night, went to school with mom Friday and spent most of the day prepping for the party Friday night including doctoring up her corsage with a used paint brush for authenticity. It went beautifully!  Or at least I thought it did… it was the first retirement party I’ve ever been to. There were over 50 people crowding into the University Club to celebrate mom and her colleague…

What? Who? Where?

What? Who? Where?

Okay, Okay… I’m back. Sort of. Ish. For those of you not up on the Whirlwind Adventures of Lex & The Travel Bunny here’s how it goes. About 2 weeks ago, immediately after meeting the OneDegree crew for drinks at Brassaii, I packed  things up and hit the road. First stop: Kingston for a short visit with mom, some last minute conspiracies with her colleagues for her upcoming retirement party and the discovery of some amazing photos of my mother as a young woman.  (BTW, retirement gift contributions are already up to over 50% even though the bar chart doesn’t…
