Epic Tale of the Traveling Ribs

Epic Tale of the Traveling Ribs

These ribs went on a journey! First they were cooked, served and sampled on camera as part of my audition video at Ottawa Ribfest. The Sue and I each had a rib as a sort of congratulatory appetizer before heading back to dry off, freshen up, and dress for our respective dinner dates before the PAB Boat Cruise. But before I could dry off, freshen up and dress, I had to deal with a paper plate with 5 untouched ribs. I certainly wasn’t going to throw them out, it would be a waste of good barbecue, and besides those ribs…

I Ought To Be In Pictures (Or At Least on TV)

I Ought To Be In Pictures (Or At Least on TV)

A couple of months ago there was a flurry of activity looking for someone “like a Canadian Guy Fieri from Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives“ for casting a Food Network Canada show.  At the time a number of people ask me if I knew anyone. I offered my suggestions, all the while thinking “ME, I’d be perfect!!!!” but not saying it or typing it out loud. Time passed, and the opportunity come back around.  Someone was casting for someone like Guy Fieri to host a new food show. They want someone male, 25-45, and funny…. but it seemed foolish to keep…

What? Who? Where?

What? Who? Where?

Okay, Okay… I’m back. Sort of. Ish. For those of you not up on the Whirlwind Adventures of Lex & The Travel Bunny here’s how it goes. About 2 weeks ago, immediately after meeting the OneDegree crew for drinks at Brassaii, I packed  things up and hit the road. First stop: Kingston for a short visit with mom, some last minute conspiracies with her colleagues for her upcoming retirement party and the discovery of some amazing photos of my mother as a young woman.  (BTW, retirement gift contributions are already up to over 50% even though the bar chart doesn’t…

A Week of Daily Dramas

A Week of Daily Dramas

Also known as trying to catching you up on what I was up to the week around the launch. (You can also read the twitter version here) Sunday’s Drama – Honk, Honk, I’m Driving a Big-Assed Vehicle! The Big-Assed Vehicle We booked a mid-sized car at a great rate of $161 for a whole week, but somehow ended up with a big-assed vehicle (or “cross-over vehicle” in the current vernacular). Cool part? We got a vehicle with all the bells and whistles – seat warmers, Sirius radio, seating for 6 and plenty of room to move our entire office to…

What Is It About Ottawa In The Fall?

What Is It About Ottawa In The Fall?

That makes me want to fall in love? Perhaps it’s the nip in the air that has me reaching for warmer, cuddlier clothing.  I’m not talking the immobilized-in-a-parka clothes, but the ones that just cover you up enough so that your skin occasionally gets kissed by the crisp air and pulling them closer feels like you’re pulling into a hug. Perhaps it’s the rush of newness. Change is in the air here in fall. New politics rolling on the hill. New students rushing into all the universities, hormones rippling in the air.  The thrill of the unknown, new trouble to…

Family Bus Trip

Family Bus Trip

What I'll look like when I get an SLR It seems like August is the month to run into family unexpectedly in Ottawa.  (Remember last year's surprise encounter with my Aunt from Holland  at a play in the park? ) This time, I surprised my cousin Kath & her husband by getting on the bus they were riding.  "What are you doing here?" Kath demanded, treating me as if I hadn't been in Ottawa for months. I was off to meet one of the CEOT team for a drink (which I desperately needed after this pizza-oven-of-a-week).  I guess Kath didn't get my…
