Jim Munroe, Me & The Gladstone Hotel…

On October 30th, Jim Munroe of No Media Kings has invited me to join him at Canzine which is taking over the Gladstone Hotel at 1214 Queen St. W.

Jim is hosting room 214 to celebrate No Media Kings‘ 5th anniversary, and has invited me to join in on his casual DIY Books Meetup from 1:30pm-2:15pm, and his more formal Panel & Think Tank Discussion: Indie Book Distro from 4:30pm-5:15pm.

Jim will be launching his DVDzine Novel Amusements #5: The Games and Shames Issue with microscreenings at 2:15pm, 3:15pm, and 6:15pm.  Note: the 3:15 showing includes White Pumpkin by Sandy Plotnikoff  (hey, that’s JP’s bro.)

Jim is also hosting a panel entitled Are You TOO DIY? and the more casual Digital Video & Games Meetup and Indie Touring Meetup.   For more information and a detailed schedule of Jim’s room 214 events check out No Media Kings – Aw, Get A Room!  For more info on  Canzine just click that.

It should be an interesting, fun and thought provoking day.  So, come on over on Sunday and check into room 214 at the Gladstone Hotel with us.

If you don’t know who Jim Munroe  is:

Jim Rocks!  Nicked from No Media Kings – "Jim Munroe is a novelist who left HarperCollins to showcase and propagate indie press alternatives." However, that is only part of what Jim is and does… Jim also founded the wildly successfull Indie Press Perpetual Motion RoadShow.

He also challenges others to take up the indie press mantle and try it themselves.  When I was thinking about starting cheapeats, my friend Jeff told me about No Media Kings‘.  I contacted Jim with way too many questions.  He took the time to sit down with me and talk what was involved in getting a book published, onto bookstore shelves and how that was just the first part of the heavy lifting involved in self-publishing.  (both figuratively and literally. Have you ever carried a metric ton of books up 3 flights of stairs?)

His advice was critical in my decision to proceed with cheapeats. (BTW, thanks again Jim!) Feel free to hold him at least partially responsible everytime I ask you to visit another restaurant or proof another batch of writing!   (if I haven’t asked you yet… contact me… I’ll start. ;->)

If you don’t know about Canzine:

it’s a huge Zine Fair, where over 150 zines from across Canada are on display and for sale!  (If you don’t know what a zine is… well… catch up kids!)
