RIYA – match making?

Thanks to Tara, and my 7000 photos, I’ve been invited to participate in the Riya is a photo tagging and searching engine with a goal to: “help you find every photo of yourself on the web. We want to help you recover every moment, every place you’ve been and all of the people you’ve met along the way. We want to give you the tools to discover your future, every place you want to go and meet new friends” (Source)

Riya will scan the photographs you have loaded, identify faces and then let you train it on who those faces belong to.

In order to make it easier to identify people who show up regularly in your photos, the training process for Riya will group shots of people it thinks are the same and allow you to identify them all in one fell swoop… (see the drop down list in the bottom right).

After loading the photos from my 40th birthday party, I found some interesting matchings.

Who knew that Blake & I looked so much alike???  Now, the photographs are not good, and the matching, now remember this is ALPHA, is not bad.

I’m only just starting to play with the tool… It only launched Alpha yesterday morning.

Many of the matches of 2 faces were successful. In grouped batches of more than 2 there seems to regularly be one that didn’t fit… kind of a “one of these things is not like the other”

However, the fun ones are when it’s a false match… like this lady’s face and my friends hand.

And you think it’s bad you look like your mom.

Ah, yes…the beauty of false positives (and even more embarassing, the face detection where there isn’t a face!).
Hopefully, as you train more of your set, you will see less and less of these…

Excuse me, but that hand does look a LOT like that lady’s face even to me….

    Bill,
I agree completely – that’s what’s so damned funny about these false matches.
