Naming Conventions

Highschool Art Class
I suck at coming up with nicknames but it’s important not to embarrass my friends unduely when telling tales online… er… I mean to respect the privacy of the people I’m hanging out with.

That’s why when Creampuff told me about the brilliant Star Trek naming convention, I jumped all over it.  Here’s how it goes:

If you are mentioning someone in a post who:

  • Take the first 2 letters of their first name: eg: Alexa = Al, Rannie=Ra
  • Take the first 2 letter of their last name: eg: Clark=cl, Turingan=tu
  • Smash together: eg: Alcl, Ratu, Rocr, Mast, Moda,

I have taken a couple of liberties in cases when adding a third character from the last name makes the name easier to pronounce (and thus remember) or more cool-sounding: eg: Japor & Getho.

Feel free to steal and use at will.

The other cool part about the Star Trek naming convention is that it gives you an awesome last name too … for last names: three first letters of your mother’s last name and the three first letters of the town you were born in. My full Star Trek name is Katr BaiBri. I’m a science officer 🙂

Oh, and my URL is .ca not .com 🙁 though I blame the pneumonia and not you 🙂
