Summer’s Little Secrets
What’s your summer secret? That one thing that gives you a little summertime thrill every time?
Do you keep a stash of cold beer in the home office? Do you put lemon juice in your hair? Do you sneak out to go moonlight skinny dipping at the cottage?
Do you read trashy novels?
Do you sing along to the Beach Boys? Do you have a “meeting” every Friday at 3pm? Is your “famous” marinade a bottle of Kraft Italian dressing?
Do you use pretanner?
Do you go to weekday movie matinees for the A/C? Do you pee in the pool? Do you drink Zima?
I’ve had a crappy week and want to hear some fun secrets. Please?
You tell me yours, I’ll tell you mine.
ok ok ok.
Since I don’t spend much time in pools, peeing in them doesn’t happen. But peeing in a lake? Wouldn’t think twice about it.
Considering that I come from a long line of Northern folk with pale skin, I have never had a golden complexion in the summer. Maybe that is why my goal is often to have a watch or flip flop tan. And knowing that skin cancer may come my way, I am still satisfied with the way my shoulders brown after a burn.
I live for the smoky flavour s’mores and hot dogs take on when prepared over a campfire.
When lying on the beach, I can’t help but dig huge holes in the sand with my feet. Even when reading, I rarely pay attention to how big the holes get. I just love the coolnes! s of the damp sand beneath the surface.
Pink lemonade becomes a staple in the house.
Not really scandalous, but summer-loves nonetheless.
I don’t know that it’s a secret, necessarily, but I like putting the car windows down and taking the long way home. Oh, and don’t forget cranking up the music and singing along at the top of my lungs! Summer is actually not my favorite season, but there’s just something about a good, long, summer drive…
my friends and i go swimming at their community pool and sneak in beer. nothing is better than swimming drunk. the fun thing is you can’t tell until you get out of the pool! 🙂
(don’t worry, we stay in the shallow end)
Greenhows – “flip flop tan” I love that. (Oh… do you mean a tan where your flip flops aren’t or… That thing you do to prove you have a tan on your arms:
“Yes, I do have a tan! Look…”, she rotates her wrist quickly so you see the underside, the top side, the underside, flip, flop, flip, flop.)
I do that sand thing too. Though I hate sand I love the feel on my toes and feet of the cold wet stuff under the surface.
Eliezer – “taking the long way home” – great phrase especially when combined with singing along at the top of your lungs. Nice!
goobers18 – finally! Someone sneaking! Hot summer nights are perfect for sneaking and the titillating thrill of doing something just a little outside the rules. I have to add, swimming drunk: that’s an OUTSTANDING secret.
Great secrets everyone! Thanks!
This is the first summer where I have planned nothing. No camping, no flag twirling marching stuff, no family parties, not even gym membership. I have to say that it’s been boring AND liberating at the same time. I doubt that we will do it again next year.
Summer for me is sweating. And I’ve been doing a lot of that lately. I love a blast of cold water after a long hot sleep (our AC is tepid at best).
