An Attractive Day

I’m having an Attractive Day today.  One of those random days when for some reason people are nicer to me.  I’m getting extra attention, bigger smiles, and stopping traffic.  (Seriously, some guy actually was blocking traffic with his car as he craned his neck to stare at me. It was simultaneously amusing and creepy.)

Now when I was younger, thinner and fitter, this was a more common occurrence, so common in fact that I didn’t really notice it. But theses days this kind of thing is uncommon, unexpected and to be frank, a delight.

The down side is that it reminds me, no matter how hard I try not to believe it,  that many people are influenced to treat you better by how attractive you are. And the converse is true.  Many people feel no compunctions at all about treating you shabbily if they don’t think you are attractive. (And on some of my less attractive days I get my fair share of extra scowls, extra rudeness and people quite literally pushing me out of the way. )

So while today I’m getting extra smiles, free coffee and gracious gestures for no apparent reason, I’d like to remind us all that everyone can use a little smile turned their way.

Hottie or nottie.

Personally, I have discovered that sometimes this kind of good day can simply be acheived by (a) showering and (b) dressing up a notch. I had a meeting with a client yesterday, and just stayed in my “dressy” clothes all day. I felt great.

Agreed, though today I’m seriously dressed down which is part of the surprise. I had meetings and dressed for success yesterday. Today, I’m fighting a blinding headache, wearing super casual clothes, no makeup, and am feeling pretty crusty. Who knew that “Crusty” was the style for me?
