How to Make Mulled Wine

(This is a quickie for Paul, sadly this means no photos… I’ll add later)

Mulled Wine Recipe

  • 1c sugar
  • 2 bottles of Red Wine (I use big fruity reds)
  • 1 stick of cinnamon
  • 4 cloves
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 cardamon pod
  • 2 peppercorns
  • 1 lemon – strips of peel
  • 1 lime – strips of peel
  • 1 clementine – strips of peel & juice
  • 1 star anise

– put sugar in the pot

– add lemon, lime and clementine peel, and clementine juice

– add the spices (except star anise)

– add 1 cup of wine

– simmer until the sugar is dissolved

– bring to a boil  for 2-3 minutes  (making a quick spice wine syrup)

– drop to low

–  add star anise

– add remaining wine

– keep it low and slow until the wine is warm

– serve!

Notes: you can vary everything to your taste.  But be warned, too many cloves and your mouth will start to go numb.  This is not a good thing ;->
