Hot Lemon and Honey

As you probably heard from my whining, our entire crew fell sick at one point or another during our trip to Florida. Not a single person was exempt and there was not a single day when someone didn’t stay in bed (or on the couch) because they were too sick to come out and play.

I was the last to be struck down, with my sniffles and fever starting as we were packing to leave Walt Disney World and drive home. We had already held off leaving for a day to avoid the Polar Vortex, but with 3 of our 3 drivers still not feeling up to the 7-9 hour driving days ahead, we turned the car around and headed back to Wellington.

One of the few joys of being sick in Florida were the healing hot lemon and honey drinks.   Made from local lemons and limes from the tree in the backyard, and local 0range blossom honey from buzznbee.com honey.

So very tasty and so very easy to make:

Hot Lemon and Honey Drink

  • put kettle on to boil
  • using a sharp knife take 3 long strips of zest off the lemon (or lime), and add them to a large mug
  • cut the lemon in half, and squeeze the juice from both halves into the mug
  • add 3T of honey
  • stir to mix while the kettle comes to a boil
  • fill the mug with hot water and stir until the honey is dissolved.

Perfect to cure the sniffles and help you go to sleep. Everyone gets better faster if they sleep.
