A Mother’s Day Message for Those Who Self-Parent

Not everyone is lucky enough to have the Best Mother in the World. And not everyone has a reason to celebrate Mother’s Day. I’m sending a big hug to you, my friends and loved ones, for whom Mother’s Day is a challenge. Those whose mothers came up short whether they tried their best, or didn’t; whose moms weren’t present or whose presence didn’t help; whose mothers weren’t able to mother, nurture, care, protect.

To those of you I know are out there – remember today you can celebrate self-Mothering too.

You who have cared for and tended yourself (and often others), who have stepped up sooner and more than you could/should/wanted to; who have to spend one day every May trying to put on a brave face.

You have done a great job! You have survived. You have thrived. You are who you need to be and you have done it!

Celebrate yourself! I do.
