What’s Up

Or more accurately, what’s not up.

He's In MY FridgeMy laptop is misbehaving.  It won’t boot.  Luckily we’ve been able to remove the hard drive and successfully do a full backup of all my current files (including the CheapEats Ottawa database -phew!) However, the bl***ping thing still won’t successfully complete the boot process.

In response to my question of “what to do”, my friend Keith has suggested:

Think of something fun and irresponsible to do, since you just got a get-out-of-appointments free card for about two days. After which, drill a hole in your old hard disk, and then go buy that MacBook Pro you’ve been lusting after.

So, if you don’t hear for me for the next couple of days you can assume I’m doing something “fun and irresponsible”.

Got any suggestions?

Try using spinrite on the disk. (www.spinrite.org)
Download it on another machine and create a bootable disk.
Run it in level 2 (may have to leave it overnight).
I’ll bet it’ll catch (and fix) the problem.

Fun and irresponsible? Maybe start by putting the “ee”‘s back in “bl**ping”, you goody-two shoes!!
Sorry about your machine. Hope it rights itself or that you punish it by buying a better one. You already have the hot laptop bag all ready to go!

    Thanks for the ideas guys.
Dead Robot – you know I’ll be checking that out!
Marc – you rock! I’m checking spinrite out now.
roro – yes, yes, I’m a g**dy-two-shoes. Isn’t that why you love me? Well, that and my hot new laptop bag.
rere – get off your mother’s computer young man. She has a consulting business to start and you should be learning to do filing before playing on the computer.
sandy – you all think I should be naughtier? That’s not what the man on the street said last month. I’m getting a complex here…
