Sunday On The Lake
Wow. What a wonderful Sunday we just had.
Our friends Pabr and Buch invited us for Sunday’s ABYC Blessing of the Fleet Sail Past. Which essentially means after the raising of the flag at the club, all the boats go out onto the lake and sail by the official’s boat and salute the Commodore and Rear Commodore, then have a short pleasure sail and come back to dock for a party or three.
Luckily we didn’t have Saturday’s weather, or we would have come off the water looking like drowned rats. Instead we were passing around the sunscreen and making sure we were "hydrated".
It was my first time on the water this year, and I had forgotten how much I missed it! Pabr isn’t racing this year, so I have hesitated going down since until this weekend I didn’t know very many people at the club.
However, I got a LOT of encouragement to come back. Racers are often looking for crew, and with an Associate Membership at the club you can head down and crew on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays every week during the season no matter what your level of skill is. Last year I was learning to work the bow, but spent most of the season as ballist. It’s a fantastic way to learn and to get onto the water.
Thanks guys!
I used to sail out of ABYC .. it is a great club. Super friendly people, not to many crazy OBSESSED racers. The associate membership is a great deal.
I also used to maintain their website; another random fact from my past.
I say it again, this is a tiny tiny world! Hey, that would mean you probably know my friend Tim (Tihi in trekian) – as seen in the reflection beside me.
